History has been part of the college curriculum right from the very start of the college in 1964. The department of History came in to force in 1967 and was upgraded into a Post graduate department in 1999. was started during 1999 to 2000. 
Not with stunding the impediments and limitations arising from the social backwardness of the locality, the department bagged the first rank for the B.A. Course in 1996 and the third rank at the  PG level in 2003. All the permanent members of the faculty hold doctoral degrees and are also approved research guides with several published articles in accepted journals. Moreover they have undertaken research projects sponsored by the UGC.
The department conducted many seminars of national importance with the active interaction of the students. The department library has a stock of more than 2000 standard books and many journals of international importance. Moreover the library is digitalized.
Apart from their academic pursuits, the members of the faculty  play an active role in co-curricular activities and socially beneficial  work. The students are transformed into responsible and dependable individuals under the constant encouragement and guidance of the dedicated faculty. The former students stand out in many walks of life.
