The Department of Commerce started functioning with the Pre-degree (Commerce) Course in 1964 and BCom in 1967. The introduction of M.Com course (with specialization in Finance ) in 1981 elevated the college into a first grade college. The department has presented 37 batches of Bcom students and 25 batches of Mcom students at the Kerala University examinations and produced good academic results. Many of our former students hold many key positions within and outside the state. Some of them are working are faculty members of Commerce in various Govt. and private colleges in the state. The fact that one among the present faculty is a former student of this college deserves special mention.
Out of the 7 permanent faculty members, six hold doctoral degrees four of whom are research guides approved by the University of Kerala. So far, the faculty members have produced 6 PhD Degrees in the faculty of Commerce and Management studies. The department intends to develop into a Research Centre in the near future.
