The Department of Botany was constituted in 1964 with only Pre-Degree classes till 1980. The Degree Course was started in 1980. The academic record of this department is commendable and we have won the affection, respect and admiration of the student community. We secured three first ranks and hundred percent success for B.Sc Botany from 1980. We have a Nature Club and a Forestry Club which are very active and conduct useful programmes like seminars, workshops in association with WWF India, Forest Department, Dept. of Biodiversity etc. The department also organizes study tours and nature camps. Extension programmes related to Biodiversity, ecological threats etc are conducted in near by schools to create general awareness about the environment among students and teachers. Study tours are also arranged to visit scientific laboratories. The majority of the students of this department come from economically challenged sections of society; it is by dint of hard work that they make it to the top and win laurels for both the department and the college.Department of Botany Organized a two day National Seminar on Bio diversity Conservation and Mangement on 23rd & 24th of Nov. 2011. The seminar was chaired by the Principal Dr. B. Sudheendran Pillai and was inaugurated by N.S.S College Education Secretary Prof, R Prasanakumar. DR. R.V. Varama Chairman Kerala State Biodiversity Board, Dr. V. P. Potty former Principal scientist CTCRI, Sreekaryam, Dr. D Kunlpikannan, Scientist IFGTB, Coimbatore etc. Presented different topics related to Bio diversity. Assoctiated with the National Seminar this was an exhibition of Medical Plants.
